As is being widely reported Windows Home Server RC1 has been released and is now available to the general public.
Unfortunately for people who’ve been running the beta/CTP releases it requires a clean-install. Temporarily moving 600GB of data to external drives and PCs, then back again, wasn’t a particularly fun experience but a couple of overnight robocopy sessions did the trick.
Apart from a noticeably better installation process RC1 seems to be nearly visually identical to the CTP. As you’d expect the more obvious bugs are gone, but all in all there’s little that I can see in terms of added functionality.
Unfortunately RC1 came at a slightly inopportune time regarding Whiist. I believe the current version of Whiist won’t install on RC1, and a rewrite of several areas coupled with a busy Real Life⢠has meant I haven’t been able to roll out an update as quickly as I’d have liked.
An updated version should be available sometime today or tomorrow.
Hi Andrew,
I’ve installed Whiist 0.5.6 on RC1 and it’s working just fine for me.

Oh cool, thanks for the update!
I thought some changes may have prevented it installing, but obviously not!
RC1
Website functionality works fine.
Have not tried the links Public or Private just yet. Busy moving 300 gig of files myself…
0.6 installs fine on RC1, better then 0.5.6 on CTP. With 0.5.6 I was able to change the icon displayed on my private homepage by changing the favicon.ico. I now tried “get icon from website”: fails and also “Choose file”, icon shows in link edt window, OK: fails again. default icon in WHS console and also on webpage.
Got the icons working now
Hi I get the error Exception thrown when I go to browse when creating a new website. I have version 0.6.
Thanks Tony
Hi,
Does the server console quit when the exception is shown?
I installed WHS RC & also am using the Whiist version 0.6 & have had no problems at all either installing or accessing my WHS web site.
One thing is that the instructions need updating a little.
Thanks Andrew for the good work
