Hi, I’m Andrew Grant and I’m a software engineer currently living in Santa Monica. I was born and raised in Scotland and while I try my best to fit into the Californian lifestyle I have yet to obtain a surfboard, a rock-hard body, or a penchant for name-dropping.

I recently joined the Los Angeles studio of Seven Studios where I’m one of the team writing the engine for a couple of upcoming projects. Until now Seven have mostly been known for games such as Shrek, Fantastic Four, and the Sopranos, but we’re now developing a new engine and working on three original IP games that I can’t talk about about yet :)

In my spare time I can usually be found planning travel adventures, watching movies, reading, or at the beach playing Volleyball. I also love cooking; Before a radical career change I spent several years as a professional chef at the famous Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh and their award winning restaurant, Number One.

  1. Hi Andrew,
hello from Edinburgh, found your site while doing some research into my future project. I am contemplating building a windows home server, this would store all my media back ups and help serve them up to my current media extender an xbox 360.
I am limited by the xbox inability to serve up divx files.
A couple of question in regards what the home server would be able to achieve.
Would I be able to set up my newsreader program?
Still deciding whether a hs or a dedicated media player would suit me better.

Hope the weather is better there!

    Richard

  2. Dear Andrew,

I head up an indie company called Gothic Games. We’re working on a turn-based fantasy strategy game. If you can imagine “Risk” with individual units, spells, diplomacy and economy, that’s the main idea.

We’re looking for a couple more programmers to join our small team. As this is an indie company, the plan is to sell the game as a download and then everyone takes their fair percentage of sales. While that has its upsides and downsides, the team itself is comprised of dedicated industry professionals coming from such companies as Micro Forte, Wizards of the Coast, and GSC Game World. The artist who did our map also created the maps for New Line Cinema’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

I won’t get too much further on the game here but am attaching an image of the interface (info panels extended), so you have an idea where things are going.

If you’re interested in learning more, do let me know.

    Best regards,

    Nikolai Soderstrom
